American Humanics is a national alliance of nonprofits, universities and colleges dedicated to educating, preparing and certifying professionals to strengthen and lead nonprofit organizations. Including certification and a minor degree, the American Humanics program is an innovative course of study that equips students to become skilled professionals and leaders in America's nonprofit organizations. To ensure success, American Humanics provides leadership opportunities, internships, and scholarships as well as education curriculum. Headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri, American Humanics is the only national nonprofit organization meeting this need. Darian Rodriguez Heyman (San Francisco, CA) has been working to enable nonprofit leaders for over a decade.  For the past five years, he served as Executive Director of Craigslist Foundation, where he was instrumental in conceiving, executing and promoting its acclaimed Nonprofit Boot Camp conference series. Over 10,000 graduates attended the program during Heyman’s tenure, and approval ratings never dipped below 93%. Heyman developed Boot Camp into the largest nonprofit gathering in the San Francisco Bay Area and it has held that honor for four years running. He also successfully expanded the program into New York City, and he has served as MC for every conference to date, building his name as a public speaker and a central figure in the sector. Great resource. I am the coordinator at a nonprofit peace and justice organization and this is a great resource. I review it often and read experts little by little to learn and it ideas. It is like an operations manual for a small non-profit.

Very easy to read and super thorough and Practical. I order this book 2 years ago and still use it frequently.

I wish I'd known that this would not give me ANY insight into starting a nonprofit. In fact, it might not even help you to run one. There's no flow, just a set of essays with varying levels of info. For example, the chapter on online community building suggests making a page on Facebook or using direct email to reach your core group. Yeah, no kidding. I didn't need to buy this book to learn that! The foreward by Ami Dar was the only valuable thing I took from this tome. What a waste of money. Non profit rule #1 should be - don't waste money. I sincerely regret buying this.

I was introduced to Darian's book prior to applying to graduate school for a degree in Non Profit administration. This book actually gave me direction when I crafted my application to school along with my personal statement required for admission. It's been a thorough and fabulous point of reference. Now that I'm in my second semester, I've found it to be a perfect compliment to my required texts and a great additional resource for my papers. Bravo Darian! Looking forward to your next book.

Reluctantly, I confess that my intent to improve my speaking/communication skills coupled with my interest in joining one of the local Toastmasters inspired me to purchase Talk Like Ted; The 9 Public Speaking Secrets of The World’s Top Minds by Carmine Gallo. Additionally, this book purchase is inspired by a circumstance where someone who I admire diplomatically gave me some shocking but helpful feedback when they expressed how they can see me soar even more as a person if I could find a way to align my speaking style with my writing voice. Anyhow the following are some of the detailed features of Talk Like Ted; a public speaking profile about Colin Powells (pages 92-94 under Have A Conversation), a snapshot of a Pink Concert (pages 156-157 under Deliver Jaw Dropping Moments), and the 18 minute rule as it ties into creativity (pages 188-189). The book also features various arenas with pop culture subjects as it ties into the area of speaking ( a feature of Bono from U2 on page 218, the feature of 32,000 Barbie dolls on pages 220-221, and a discussion on kinesthetic touch with a person (Dr. Elliott Krane on page 235) using a blowtorch during their TED talk etc.).

Talk This Way!Using a host of TED Talks, Carmine Gallo offers a powerful argument for how to deliver public presentations. Having taught speech for over 20 years and being a former speechwriter, I can highly recommend this book. Gallo suggests speaking with emotion and passion; telling compelling, relevant stories; having a conversation with the audience; teaching something new; inserting show-stopping elements; using situational and personal humor; and, delivering information in short 10-minute segments punctuated by soft breaks—stories, pictures, videos.

I used this as a supplement for our homeschooled daughter. She's in 10th grade and needed a speech credit. I feel like she learned more from this book than she did the actual curriculum we used. She loved it so much she ended up buying it for her boyfriend as a gift.

This is a fantastic book. Gallo really gives extended evidence to back up the 9 'secrets'. The only draw back is that at times it may seem to be long winded, however you leave each chapter fully understanding what contributes to excellent public speaking/presentation. It truly inspires you to tackle all of your business presentations and make sure that all of your audiences are fully engaged and walk away with a new idea.

I was asked to speak to a group of physicians and grieving families about being an organ donor. This book was suggested to me and really helped me work on refining my public speaking skills. I enjoy Ted Talk programs and this gave me insight on how much the delivery is important when keeping the audiences attention.

If you stand in front of people for a living this book should be mandatory for you to read. What an inspiring book on public speaking. They make it much more than a presentation. They teach how to grab others hearts and truly impact those you are speaking too. Everything is practical which is the best part. No matter your experience this book will inspire and teach you to be a better speaker.

Not a bad read overall; it's quick and easy to get through, yet it doesn't really provide any meaningful insight into how to "Talk Like TED." The essence of Gallo's few instructions comments you can find from any decent book on public speaking: be authentic; gestures are important; be funny; make an impact; visuals are powerful; have passion. I think that covers it all for this books, as far as public speaking is concerned.If you're interested in the context around some of the more popular TED talks, then this book really shines. It is well written; it's just that the content and title are incongruent.

Whether your professional student or job applicant thinks they know everything or needs a step by step guide, this is a must have book for anyone going through interviews or panels. In fact, I'm finding it useful for myself and my church committee involvement and husband is looking it over for misc needs in his 30 year blue collar job.

I expected a lot from this book, yet it somehow managed to deliver so much more. From the inspiring examples of some of the best-known speakers to the easy-to-follow guidelines for becoming a more effective presenter (whether for TED or otherwise), I recommend this book for anyone who wants to make a bigger impact on their audiences!
